Paisleys & Posies for Blooms & Butterflies Color Challenge #15

Paisleys & Posies for Blooms & Butterflies Color Challenge #15

17 Paisley & Posies Red White & Blue w Frame n h20

Hi, There Stampers!!

This is a fun card with a very patriotic color theme I created for the Blooms & Butterflies Coller Challenge this month. The colors were red, white, and blue using the Stampin’ Up! Color’s Real Red, Whisper White and Pacific Point.

I had a BLAST creating my own Designer Series Paper! It was sooo much FUN!! It’s a great way to just stamp, especially when you don’t exactly know what you want to do — but you do KNOW you WANT to stamp! 🙂

For this card, I used the Paisley & Posies Stamp Set to create my background. I just let my stamps go free on a blank piece of Whisper White Cardstock. I started stamping in the middle of the page and worked my way outward towards the edge. I alternated between the stamps and colors, in an effort to avoid repeating, to fill the page.

After you create your own Designer Series Paper, the rest of the card is super quick and easy to finish!! This is the perfect card for stampers at any experience level!

Creating your own Designer Series Paper is a great way to ensure you ALWAYS have the DSP in the color you NEED!

Thanks for reading!! Please stop by again soon!!

P.S. I was able to create 4 more styles of cards with this background paper, so keep an eye out for some upcoming posts

  • To make the CARD BASE start with a sheet of Pacific Point Cardstock and cut in half to a size of 8 & 1/2in x 5 & 1/2in.   Then, fold the cardstock in half to 4 & 1/4in x 5 & 1/2in.
  • Using the Paisleys & Posies Stamp Set with both the Real Red Ink Pad and Pacific Point Ink Pad create your own Designer Series Paper on Whisper White Cardstock as your background.
    • TIPS & TRICKS:
    • Quicker Stamping Alternative: USING THE “D” ACRYLIC BLOCK: You can fit about 4 smaller stamps on the block, and one of the larger paisley stamps on the opposite side of the stamp. This will cover more space, than one stamp at a time. You will likely want to use only one ink color for this option.
    • Rotate the acrylic block with the stamp before you stamp it again. This will give the pattern a more random look even though you haven’t changed the order of the 4 small stamps.
    • Don’t forget to mix in and alternate with the larger stamp!
    • BE SURE TO CLEAN THE INK OFF THE STAMP(S) AFTER EACH TIME!! Otherwise, you may end up messing up your stamp pad.
  • After you have created your DSP, cut your paper to 4in x 5 & 1/4in, this will be your CARD FRONT.
  • Next, using the Multipurpose Liquid Glue, adhere the CARD FRONT to the CARD BASE.
    • TIP: Since this is a liquid glue you still have a few seconds to get the CARD FRONT centered on the CARD BASE if you don’t get it quite right the first time!
  •  For the greeting, using the Big On Birthdays Stamp Set, I selected “Happy Birthday”. I used Pacific Point Ink on Whisper White Cardstock.
  • Once the greeting is stamped, trim to 3 & 1/2in x 1 & 5/8in.
  • Glue the greeting onto a 3 & 3/4in x 1 & 7/8in piece of Real Red Cardstock using the Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
  • Then place the matted greeting on the front of your card. You can glue the greeting directly onto your card, or you may wish to give your card some depth and use some Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop-up the greeting. (This was my plan, but I forgot. Oh, well! That’s what next time is for!)
    • TIP: Since you have used a DSP as your background and there is not really a way to distinguish top or bottom, it’s best to make sure your card is positioned correctly BEFORE placing your greeting on your card. I can’t tell you how disappointing it is to have your greeting glued facing upside down.
  • Lastly, pull out your Rhinestone Jewels and pick the perfect one to go in the perfect place on the front of your card!

UPDATE: Where have I been?

Hey there, Stampin’ Nuts!

I just wanted to let you know I am still around and my blog has not been abandoned! I recently had a lifelong dream come true, I was admitted into law school!! I started in mid August and it has been intense. I haven’t had any time for creativity! It is sad, but just a small sacrifice. I am home today healing and recovering not only from my first round of mid-terms but from a root canal I had yesterday. Yes, my life really has been full lately! HA HA HA

With this little recovery break today, I’m hoping to get some posts that I’ve had in the back of my mind ready for you. I even have 2 Paper Pumpkin videos I need to share!

Blooms and Butterflies Color Challenge #7

My dear amazing friend and teacher, Brandy Cox, has started doing a weekly color challenge! Mom and I were both able to participate this week! The color challenge is simple. Brandy gives us 3 current Stampin’ UP! colors that coordinate (some surprising combinations!) and then you can also use either Very Vanilla or Whisper White ONLY! No other colors. Just use a current stamp set and let your imagination run WILD! Brandy’s Website,, also features other stampers that participated! I was super glad Brandy welcomed me into her family of Blooms and Butterflies!

This week our colors were Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie. At first I was a little scared when I saw these colors, but then it put me a fall frame of mind. I chose to use 2 new sets from the Stampin’ UP! Holiday Catalog. The sets I used were Truly Grateful and Harvest of Thanks. I made a “gate card” where I cut my 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock in half and then scored it 2 3/4 inches from each end. I used the wood-grain background stamped in Crushed Curry from Truly Grateful as my background on Very Vanilla. I then stamped the “Harvest of Blessings” in Melon Mambo and the cute turkey in Pumpkin Pie. I stamped the turkey twice so I could cut out the turkey and pop him up with my Stampin’ Dimensionals, after I glittered him of course!! I also popped up “Harvest of Blessings”. Last I added a Pumpkin Pie bow I made from gross grain ribbon and adhered it with a glue dot!

I just LOVE the card mom made. (I like her’s better than mine) She used the stamp set “Polka-Dot Pieces” and the punches: Bird Builder, Scallop Circles (various sizes) and the Scallop Border. Her base cardstock was Melon Mambo and she used the Scallop Border Punch on the bottom so she could place the Pumpkin Pie Designer Series Paper behind it, showing off the cute polka-dots in Whisper White. Then Mom placed a rectangle of Crushed Curry onto the top of her card. She stamped using all the stamps from the set in the various colors from the color challenge onto Whisper White cardstock and then she played around with the placement. (She played around for quite some time to get it just right). She gave the card some depth using Stampin’ Dimensionals and blinged out her card with rhinestones in the center of the flowers and on the butterfly. She also glittered up the wing of the little birdy!

I hope you enjoyed our first attempts at the Blooms and Butterflies Color Challenge!!
