My dear amazing friend and teacher, Brandy Cox, has started doing a weekly color challenge! Mom and I were both able to participate this week! The color challenge is simple. Brandy gives us 3 current Stampin’ UP! colors that coordinate (some surprising combinations!) and then you can also use either Very Vanilla or Whisper White ONLY! No other colors. Just use a current stamp set and let your imagination run WILD! Brandy’s Website, Brandyscards.com, also features other stampers that participated! I was super glad Brandy welcomed me into her family of Blooms and Butterflies!
This week our colors were Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo and Pumpkin Pie. At first I was a little scared when I saw these colors, but then it put me a fall frame of mind. I chose to use 2 new sets from the Stampin’ UP! Holiday Catalog. The sets I used were Truly Grateful and Harvest of Thanks. I made a “gate card” where I cut my 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock in half and then scored it 2 3/4 inches from each end. I used the wood-grain background stamped in Crushed Curry from Truly Grateful as my background on Very Vanilla. I then stamped the “Harvest of Blessings” in Melon Mambo and the cute turkey in Pumpkin Pie. I stamped the turkey twice so I could cut out the turkey and pop him up with my Stampin’ Dimensionals, after I glittered him of course!! I also popped up “Harvest of Blessings”. Last I added a Pumpkin Pie bow I made from gross grain ribbon and adhered it with a glue dot!
I just LOVE the card mom made. (I like her’s better than mine) She used the stamp set “Polka-Dot Pieces” and the punches: Bird Builder, Scallop Circles (various sizes) and the Scallop Border. Her base cardstock was Melon Mambo and she used the Scallop Border Punch on the bottom so she could place the Pumpkin Pie Designer Series Paper behind it, showing off the cute polka-dots in Whisper White. Then Mom placed a rectangle of Crushed Curry onto the top of her card. She stamped using all the stamps from the set in the various colors from the color challenge onto Whisper White cardstock and then she played around with the placement. (She played around for quite some time to get it just right). She gave the card some depth using Stampin’ Dimensionals and blinged out her card with rhinestones in the center of the flowers and on the butterfly. She also glittered up the wing of the little birdy!
I hope you enjoyed our first attempts at the Blooms and Butterflies Color Challenge!!
